Profile

I am a creative person with a proven ability to understand client’s requirements and meet deadlines. An avid learner, undaunted by challenges and having the tenacity to overcome obstacles. Although art and design is most predominant, skills acquired from a wider range of career experiences is an advantage when solving design problems.

I am currently accepting commissions for a variety of projects.


Career Progression in reverse order


1995 to 2005 Self employed artist. Produced illustrations for commercial leaflets, advertising and packaging. Translated architect’s technical drawings of buildings into colour perspective illustrations. Completed many commissions for portraits, both human and animals. Produced several wall and ceiling murals in different styles. Between commissions worked as decorator, sub-contracting for Connor Decorators on special painting techniques, murals, friezes, bas-reliefs and signs.


1992 to 1994 Self employed painter and decorator and artist. Also worked periodically with an antique dealer, gaining an appreciation of antiques, oak furniture in particular.

1991 to 1992 Attended Oldham art college.


1980 to 1991 Indexisle Ltd. Invested in, and helped to set up a pine furniture manufacturing company. Designed furniture and helped with each stage of manufacture.


1976 to 1979 “Exhibit A.” Opened a workshop and retail outlet, selling a variety of arts and crafts to the public.


1973 to 1976 Attended Oldham Art College.


1972 to 1973 Heywood’s Decorators. Employed as a painter, specialising in cinemas, and leisure centres. Gained experience of special decorative effects.


1971 to 1972 Oldham Hide and Skin Co. Ltd. Employed as a clerk. Duties included preparing invoices, balancing tally books, filing.


1970 to 1971 Glodwick Motor Co. Employed as an assistant storekeeper. Gained experience of storekeeping practices, indexes, microfiche, dealing with mechanics and customers.


1969 to 1970 Industrial Models Mimics and Electronics Co. Ltd. Employed as an apprentice electrical engineer; attended training centre for 12 months to learn all aspects of engineering. Attended college for engineering studies.

Education and Professional Qualifications

Full-time intensive course in web page design and use of the Internet leading to Vocational Qualification 7261 Certificate in Information Processing. Course content includes: Overview of the Internet. Accessing, using and searching the Internet. E-mail, file transfers and data security. Internet addressing, protocols and communication technologies. Overview of web languages and coding. Using JavaScript and Java applets. Graphics, embedding images and animation. Web-site management, testing and development. Overview of e-commerce and using e-commerce tools. Web-site publishing. Using web page editors.


1994 to 1995 Attended part time course in basic I.T. Gained certificates in Word processing, Databases and Spreadsheets. Tutored myself in the use of two different computer graphics applications and gained a certificate for Computer Art and Design. Also completed a business and enterprise programme.


1991to 1992 Attended Oldham Art college studying Illustration and Art History.


1973 to 1976 Attended full time course in Advertising design at Oldham Art College. Topics covered include: Observation, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printing, Typography, Graphic design, Advertising theory, Technical drawing.


1964 to 1969 Attended Greenhill Grammar School Oldham. Gained O levels in Art and English Language, and C.S.E. passes in English Literature, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and French.
